It’s true that the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max are different sizes than the iPhone 11 series. However, they still share some design elements with Apple’s 2019 models, like an all-screen design and no Home button at the front.
We’ve got step-by-step guides to help you power on or off, and force a restart if you’re coming from a device with a Home button. Here’s what each function does and why you might use them.
Guide: How to hard reset the iPhone 12 (all variants)
- Press and release the Volume Up button quickly.
- Press and release the Volume Down button quickly.
- Hold the Side button until the Apple logo appears, then let go.
You’ll see a slider to power off the iPhone during this process. Continue to hold down the Side button until the screen goes black and ignore the message. In that case, the Apple logo will appear, and the screen will once again activate after the restart has been completed.
When you use the force restart process, you do not have to shut down your iPhone altogether, which requires several additional steps.
Additionally to turn off the device, In the Settings app, go to General, scroll down to the bottom, and choose Shut Down.
iPhone 12 Basic Button Use
Apple changed many physical buttons on its smartphones with the launch of the iPhone 8 and iPhone X, so if you’re upgrading, familiarize yourself with these new features.
If you look at your new iPhone, you’ll see two volume buttons on the left, and one Side button on the right. Without a Home button, these three side buttons perform all necessary tasks in combination.
