When your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus starts acting up and needs a quick reboot, you can force the device to restart without shutting it down.
There is no physical Home button on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, so forcing a restart is different from before. This also differs from restarting the iPhone 8.
Learn how to force restart (hard reset) your iPhone 7.
You can force restart iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus with these three simple steps.
- Keep holding the Volume Down button on the left and the Sleep/Wake button on the right of the device.
- For approximately 10 seconds, hold the buttons until the screen turns dark and an Apple logo appears.
- Let go of the buttons and wait for the iPhone to restart.
When you hold down the Sleep/Wake or Side buttons on your iPhone, you will be able to shut down the device. Five presses of the Side button trigger the Emergency SOS screen.
If you go to the General section in the Settings app, you’ll find a “Shut Down” option at the very bottom.
