It is become easier and easier for us to get all types of information, whether it is available online through websites, applications, emails, videos, chats, TVs, etc. or offline through publications like newspapers, magazines, handbills, billboards, books, NSFW, CDs/DVDs, tapes, and USBs. It takes time for us to determine which one is reliable, which one is what we actually want, and which one is appropriate for us, therefore that is an issue.

Pornography and gambling are two examples of content that young people and children in particular shouldn’t be exposed to. These are known as adult contents. Only those over the age of 18 should be allowed entry, and they should include reminders for their readers.

What Does NSFW Standards for on Discord?

The term “NSFW,” which refers to content that is sexually explicit like nudity on Discord, stands for “Not Safe For Work” or “Not Suitable for Wumpus.” Moreover, it can be applied to graphic or violent material. NSFW stuff is that which you wouldn’t want to view at the office because it might irritate your supervisor or fellow employees.

NSFW means the same thing whether you’re on Reddit, Discord, or any other network. Discord has recently changed the meaning of NSFW to mean “Not Suitable for Wumpus,” even though it still refers to the same kind of content as “Not Safe For Work.”

Nudity or sexually explicit movies or photographs are typically labeled as “Not Safe For Work.” A female in a bikini, for instance, might not be NSFW unless she is in a suggestive pose or unless her bikini is really revealing.

Depending on how offensive it is, graphic and violent material might potentially be NSFW.

Although NSFL (Not Safe For Life) is a real term, it is typically used to describe excessively graphic or distressing images or films. Content that is “unsafe” for life is content that the majority of people do not wish to see.

Similar to this, servers on Discord that include adult content are only accessible by adults. By using labels that read NSFW, or Not Suitable For Wumpus, they keep minors who are not adults from unintentionally coming across them.

NSFW Definition on Discord

The acronym NSFW also has another definition. NSFW, or “Not Safe For Work,” is thought to stand for this.

A channel feature in Discord enables users to mark one or more text channels on their servers as NSFW.

  1. Select the Edit Channel icon (the gear) next to the name of your channel.
  2. Locate the NSFW Channel option in the Overview tab’s lower section, and turn it on.
  3. In the bottom message pop-up column, select Save Changes.

Anyone who opens those channels will be informed that they may contain NSFW material and will need to verify that they are at least 18 years old in order to access them.

Server banners, invite splashes, and avatars that contain explicit content cannot be uploaded to age-gated channels. Moderators will remove any adult content that isn’t put in the NSFW channel on Discord, and the user who submitted it might get banned.

Discord guidelines permit keeping explicit materials in a separate location. Nevertheless, Discord continues to reject some content. Examples include material that sexualizes minors. Please review the official community standards or terms of service (TOS)/policy for further details on the types of content you are not permitted to post on Discord.

Tip: Adult content cannot be contained on partner/verified servers, and those servers cannot create NSFW channels.

How to Make an NSFW Channel on Discord Mobile

Creating an NSFW channel on the Discord Mobile app involves:

  1. Launch the Discord server, then select the channel you want to change.
  2. Click on the people symbol in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. Choose Settings.
  4. Switch to the “Age-restricted channel.”

Staying Safe (and Focused)

The NSFW settings in Discord are an excellent way to keep kids from viewing sexual content while using the program. When you use the NSFW option on your own servers, you have more control over your servers even though you are bound by some restrictions.

How to Avoid Seeing Adult Content on Discord?

You can use your Discord settings to target NSFW content if you’re under 18 or simply don’t want to be exposed to it. You must specifically enable the explicit media filter in your privacy settings.

  1. Open Discord and click User Settings.
  2. In the left panel, click Security & Privacy.
  3. Choose Keep me secure at the appropriate location.

After that, all direct messages from anyone will have their photographs and videos scanned by Discord, and sexual content will be prohibited. You cannot access NSFW Discord servers if you are under the age of 18 due to Discord’s age barrier.

Can You Make A Discord Server NSFW?

While you cannot make the entire Discord server NSFW, you can achieve the same result by making each channel in the server NSFW (age-restricted). Additionally, you can make it clear in the server name that it is an NSFW server, alerting any potential members to the server’s content.

Other than renaming it “NSFW” and setting every channel to allow NSFW content, there is no formal way to make your Discord server NSFW.

To enable NSFW content, just right-click on a channel, modify it, and enable “Age-Restricted” in the options.

As a result, anyone will be able to submit NSFW content in the channel, technically turning your Discord server into an NSFW server.

How to Access NSFW Content if You’re 18 and Still Blocked

You can contact Discord’s customer support if you’ve just turned 18 and are still being denied access to servers with age restrictions.

To file an appeal, you will need:

  1. Your own picture
  2. A photo of your photo ID with your date of birth on it
  3. A photo of a sheet of paper with your username and entire Discord tag printed properly on it

Last but not least, send this data to Discord’s Trust & Safety team. Click Appeals, age update, other queries under “Report type” on the help page to do this.
